ITIL Certification Path

The ITIL Service Management (ITIL) certifications are something of a “Holy Grail” for IT professionals interested in pursuing careers in the field of IT service management.

Embraced worldwide, any cert gained through the ITIL certification path  is much more than a certificate, it’s a philosophy designed to increase reliability, improve services, reduce IT costs, increase productivity, and produce the highest quality IT products and services through organizational best practices and proven processes. ITIL practices also meet quality standards set by ISO/IEC 20000 called the “IT Service Management Code of Practice.” As business and organizations become increasingly dependent on technology, the requirement for IT professionals who understand and know how to use ITIL management philosophies and processes continues to boom.

ITIL Certification Path

ITIL currently includes three certification tiers: ITIL Foundation, ITIL Intermediate, and ITIL Expert.

A fourth tier, the ITIL Master Qualification, is currently in beta test and will appear in 4Q 2011. We’ll take a closer look at each tier in the sections that follow. Each credential tier continues to raise the standard in terms of skills, knowledge, and expertise that certification seekers must possess to earn these coveted credentials. Modular in its structure, each ITIL certification tier not only builds upon prior skills, but provides prerequisites to the next step up the ladder. Credential seekers earn credits as they progress through each level. Those credits accumulate, and eventually lead to higher-level certifications.

Is the ITIL certification difficult?

The higher-level certs on the ITIL certification path  , especially the Expert and Master Qualification, take some time to earn and require considerable dedication and commitment. However, the rewards that follow in their wake make ITIL certifications well worth the effort for IT professionals who focus on best practices, cost reduction, and continual quality improvement.

 Is it worth it going through the ITIL Certification Path?

This is a question only you can answer…but it was definitely worth it for me…both personally and career-wise.
